Wireless & Ethernet DAQ Web Configuration Utility

Screenshot.png

Overview

This utility installs a web server on your NI WLS-9xxx or ENET-9xxx DAQ device from which you can manage your device and network settings without MAX or drivers installed.

What is it?

The Networked DAQ Web Configuration Utility is designed to make setting up network-based data acquisition devices easy. Similar to a wireless home router, each NI WLS-9xxx or NI ENET-9xxx hosts a configuration web page, which you can access using Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. The page is built using the new Microsoft Silverlight web application framework, providing a fast, Windows-like experience embedded within your browser.

On the configuration page, you have access to all the settings for the device as you would in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX), including IP address, wireless SSID, and security settings.  However, you no longer need MAX or any other NI software for configuration – just a web browser. This makes network configuration and management possible from a centralized source. A significant benefit of using IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet) and IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) for data acquisition is tight integration with your existing network. If you have an IT department or network administrator responsible for managing all your networked devices and policies, the configuration page provides quick access to your DAQ devices without installing additional software.

Installation Instructions

Because this is beta experimental technology, the factory default firmware your WLS/ENET-9163 will not have a webpage. Therefore, you must first upgrade the firmware on your device using NI-DAQmx 8.9 (or later) and MAX. After this initial upgrade you will no longer need MAX to configure your device’s network settings. Please read the detailed installation instructions here.

You will also need to install the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in for your web browser. If you do not, you will be prompted to do so the first time your attempt to access your WLS/ENET-9163 device from a web browser. Download the latest Microsoft Silverlight plug-in here »

Using the Web Configuration Utility

Once you have completed installation, you can access the configuration page by typing "http://WLS-xxxxxx/index.html" into your browser’s address bar, where ‘xxxxxx’ is the serial number printed on the bottom of your WLS-9163 carrier. Alternatively, the address would be "http://ENET-xxxxxx/index.html" if you are using an ENET-9163 carrier.

If your network’s DHCP server is not set up to automatically register hostnames, you may have to enter the IP address instead of the WLS-xxxxxx or ENET-xxxxxx hostname. Check with your network administrator if you are unsure of the IP address for your device.
