Calling all Add-on Developers!

We're excited to introduce a new award this year at NIWeek, the "LabVIEW Add-on of the Year".  Along with the award itself, finalists get the opportunity to present a brief product demo during an NIWeek session.  Here's all the details, and the official application is attached to this blog post as a Word document:

Eligibility:

1.  A LabVIEW Add-on is a software product that is complementary to the LabVIEW platform and may be any of the following:  Driver, Toolkit, Utility, Software Bridge interfacing LabVIEW to another Software tool, Set of UI controls, reuse library, code reference architecture/template, or FPGA IP.

2.  The product must meet Compatible with LabVIEW guidelines (Standard, Silver, or Gold level) as specified at the Add-on Dev Center (www.ni.com/addondevcenter).

Process and Timeline:

1.  NI accepts nominations submitted on behalf of the company directly, with the deadline for entry July 9th 2010. (see attachment below)

2.  The LabVIEW Add-on of the Year award finalists will be selected based on the merit of the product and entry submission, with the winner chosen by a leadership panel at NI.

3.  NI will present the award on Tuesday evening August 3rd as part of NIWeek 2010, and the finalists will have an opportunity to present their technology the following day Wednesday August 4th during the Community Track at NIWeek.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Sweet!  We've added a mention of this on the JKI Software Blog.

"...the winner chosen by a leadership panel..." <- so how do I get on that panel?

Just shoot over your C.V.!  Just kidding, although I'm certain you would be a superb panelist.  Actually, since some folks may be interested in our process let me explain a bit more. We have a lot of LabVIEW R&D leaders and NI executives very interested in all the Add-ons our partners are developing and new ways they are innovating, so I'm pulling those internal advocates together and including them in this process. (The leadership panel will consist of a mix of both technical and business leaders at NI.)

I realize it's a little late in mentioning this this, but it would be nice if NI could categorize this award and potentially award in multiple categories like cRio, FPGA, Linux, Mac, or even Mobile (wink-wink, nudge-nudge).

Thanks for the feedback John.  For this year, we will most likely have the single category although that decision has not been finalized.  The next most likely categorization that we've been thinking about is a two-category breakdown of:  "free add-on" and "paid add-on" awards.  Because there are a lot of great free tools out there and we want make sure those can get top-level billing, without having to compete in the same category as the paid tools.  Your suggestion for the "platform categorization" is pretty compelling as well, and we will definitely keep that under consideration.
