Eurotherm 808 -- Can not locate instrument

I attempting to connect a Eurotherm 808 to my computer to use in Labview. I tried to connect the eurotherm directly to my computer directly via an SRS 232 (d9 pin) connector. Then use NI MAX to identify it.

I get the following image when I look at the Test panel. I believe the computer acknowledges something in the port because I cannot access the 'VISA Test Panel' when the instrument is unplugged/disconnected. When I do access the 'VISA Test Panel', the 'View Attributes' page tells me there is an 'Invalid Property Value' and I get the error message on the right pannel. 

I've additionally tried to connect directly to a NI USB 6221, then identify via NI MAX, but also could not get it to recognize the port. No error messages in this route. 

Any insight would be appreciated.
