Happy Friday My Lovelies

I'm updating my presentation on Immediacy for the CLD Summit on September 9th in Newbury. Part of this exercise is to right a wrong that I committed during the original presentation to no lesser a person than Jeff Kodosky (ooooooops). You'll have to check out the presentation video for the full confession or wait for somebody to snitch on me in the comments, but during my research I have dug out this little gem!.

LV1_2Manual.png

(I've linked the image to the document)

It's a really interesting read because at this early version some of the design reasons are writ large.

And this segues nicely into 2 nice little bits of new functionality in LabVIEW and just to show I'm a new tech sort of guy I've made a video instead of typing it. ooooooooooooh multimedia baby!

I've seen a couple of demos and the filter hasn't been mentioned (and it's brilliant!) and the hyperlinks were only http, linking to local files is way more useful for me. Ideally I would like to be linking to files relative to the containing VI but this will cause all sorts of issues I would imagine.

See you at the CLD summit if you are going

Much Love

Steve

Steve,

Thanks for the demo. I didn't know about the filter in search and I love it.

Also, it wouldn't have occurred to me to link to a file path, however, given that it is not relative, I don't know if I would use it as much. After watching your video I had to try if environment variables such as file:///%userprofile% or file:///%programdata% would work and alas they did not work

I searched in the idea exchange and they marked this idea: Documentation links on block diagrams as a duplicate of the hyperlink idea. Except that it is not the same. The idea marked as a duplicate was referring to links to documentation. He even said: "The risk would be moving the document and the link becomes invalid. This risk could be minimized by placing a documentation folder in your labview project."

So I created this idea in the idea exchange: Documentation links on block diagrams to use relative paths or environment variables

Feel free to Kudo it

Thanks for another great post.

Regards,

Fab

I was most excited about locking in my docs/manuals/images etc, so of course the first thing I went looking for is relative paths. It's a shame but it's early days for the feature yet, hopefully they will add to it. I would also like to mask the actual URL, but that will probably add a lot of bloat to a lightweight feature.

The filter is just perfect for me, I found search to be a constant frustration. One of those annoying things that you just get used to!

Nice demo of these new features.

Have you tried adding text surrounded by angle brackets after the URL in the comments?

The search feature was posted by Christina on her blog recently (Filtering Search Results in LabVIEW 2015) but only with static images, the video demo shows it off much better.

The invisible box threw me at a User Group meeting and I had to refer to Christinas blog to find out how to bring it up!

I think I will start using the hyperlinks as soon as the relative paths is sussed, URL masking is a nice to have.
