Here’s a short, informative video about becoming a technical writer.

“A technical writer is, in a way, a translator. He or she translates scientific, medical, or other complex information into easily understandable language.”

Ever wanted to change or test a new WordPress theme without making the new theme public yet? Changing WordPress themes should be as easy as clicking a template on the Appearance/Theme page of your WordPress dashboard. However, some advanced WordPress users like to tweak the template/CSS to suit their preference. It’s hard to tweak the template before changing a theme because you’re not sure whether the tweak will look right or not. Often times, you have to change the theme first, then tweak the template one modification at a time.  You have to refresh your website to see each change until you are satisfied. Meanwhile, all your visitors are seeing all the changes you are making at the same time and it’s likely that your website will exhibit strange and odd behaviors.

I found a WordPress plugin called Theme Tester that you can use to test new WordPress themes without letting your visitors see any changes. As long as you are logged in to your blog, you will see the new theme and all the changes, but no one else will until you disable this plugin. Very useful!

When I was trying to install a WordPress plugin, I got the following error:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare pclziputilpathreduction() (previously declared in /home2/blindman/public_html/shanghaitechwriter/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-aut omatic-upgrade/lib/pclzip.lib.php:5421) in /home2/blindman/public_html/shanghaitechwriter/wp-admin/includes/class-pclzip.ph p on line  5498

After a quick search, I found that this error has to do with having  WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin installed in WordPress 2.7. I recently upgraded my WordPress from version 2.5 to 2.7, so I was getting this error when I tried installing new plugins.  If you are using WordPress 2.7, all you need to do is deactivate the WPAU plugin. Wordpress 2.7 includes the auto upgrade feature so you no longer need the WPAU plugin.

I moved to China before Google introduced Google Suggest to its search engine. Since Google Suggest doesn’t work in China, I’ve never used or played with Google Suggest until recently when I subscribed to Witopia personal VPN service.

Google Suggest

I started typing random keywords to see what sort of suggested search terms Google Suggest comes up with. Some of them are quite funny. I wonder how Google Suggest comes up with these suggested terms. Either the people at Google are having lots of fun coming up with these suggested terms or people are really searching for some pretty crazy stuff!

Let’s take a look at some of the suggested terms:
