LabWindows/CVI Tip: Working with multiple versions of CVI

In workplaces where multiple engineers work in the same project, while using various versions of CVI, it's important that those who are using the more recent versions of CVI not use in the project functions that were not present in the earlier versions of CVI still in use, otherwise the project cannot build in those versions.

This is also a concern when you develop an application that you then need to port to Linux using the LabWindows/CVI Run-Time Module for Linux. Because this module isn't updated for each new release of CVI, if you find yourself using the latest version of CVI, and you know that you will need to deploy your application to Linux, you need to be careful to not use any functionality that is newer than what the Linux module supports.

Starting with LabWindows/CVI 2009, there is a documentation feature that makes it much easier to do this. Included in the function reference help, you can now see which version of LabWindows/CVI introduced that particular function. In addition to the online help, you can access the function help from the function panel, or directly in the source window, as seen in the two examples below.
