Error Codes

What to consider
  • Are custom error codes defined in your product documentation?
  • Are custom error codes stored in a text file in project\errors\ named CompanyPrefix-ProductName-errors.txt?

Ensure any custom errors you define and use in your product are documented for your customers to use when for troubleshooting.  The LabVIEW Tools Network team has a reserved block of error codes and can allocate these to you in blocks of 20 for use in your products; please contact the LabVIEW Tools Network team (labviewtoolsnetwork@ni.com) to request a block of error codes or mention your interest during the LabVIEW Tools Network software review process.

When custom error codes are defined, these should be stored in a text file in LabVIEW\project\errors\with the following naming convention:

    CompanyPrefix-ProductName-errors.txt

The Error Code File Editor in LabVIEW (Tools > Advanced > Edit Error Codes...) can be used to generate new XML error code files.
