Overview
There are many high spec observation submersibles currently used by the scientific community for investigating deep sea ecosystems or
shipwrecks but what about the man who wants to inspect the underside of his yacht?
Here at the University of Nottingham, we have been exploring the world of Underwater Observation Vehicles and have developed an
Affordable Remote Control Observation Submersible (AFROSUB 500). This vehicle provides the average yacht owner with an affordable, novel and efficient way to ensure
his yacht is looking shipshape and perhaps, if he is feeling adventurous, to explore what lies beneath!
Clearly one of the major obstacles in the design process was how to control the submersible. Control code was developed using National Instruments LabVIEW
software, which converts inputs from a USB games controller into commands for the on-board phidgets boards. An intuitive on-screen interface displays input information
from the controller, and video feeds from both cameras to allow the user to pilot the submersible using only what displayed on-screen.

Hello there,
Thank you so much for your project submission into the NI LabVIEW Student Design Competition. It's great to see your enthusiasm for NI LabVIEW! Make sure you share your project URL with your peers and faculty so you can collect votes for your project and win. Collecting the most "likes" gives you the opportunity to win cash prizes for your project submission. If you or your friends have any questions about how to go about "voting" for your project, tell them to read this brief document (https://forums.ni.com/t5/Student-Projects/How-to-Vote-for-LabVIEW-Student-Design-Projects-doc/ta-p/3...). You have until July 15, 2011 to collect votes!
I'm curious to know, what's your favorite part about using LabVIEW and how did you hear about the competition? Great work!!
Good Luck, Liz in Austin, TX.
