FAQ: Test Accounts for Standard Mode

What is a test account?

Test accounts are free trial accounts on the NI-Managed SOLO Server.  You can use this within the LabVIEW Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit Add-on Licensing Tool to license a library in Standard Mode.

How do I get a test account?

Within LabVIEW in the Add-on Licensing Tool (Tools > Add-on Licensing Tool), you can click "New to SOLO Server?" and then "Sign up for an account today!"  You can also sign up at https://softwarekey.ni.com/solo/products/custom/account/Signup.aspx

What are the limitations of a test account?

  • Only test licenses are permitted to be added to the system.
    • Test licenses are deleted at the end of the month
    • You should use test licenses for internal testing by developers.  Do not issue test licenses to actual customers because they will eventually be purged.
  • Adding bulk licenses (via the Customers / Add Multiple menu option) is not allowed.
  • Manually adding invoices to customer records is not allowed.

How do I upgrade a test account to a full account?

Full accounts on the NI-Managed SOLO Server are provided free of charge for Add-ons that are hosted on the NI Tools Network.  For information on hosting your add-on, please visit Contribute an Add-On to the Tools Network.

Will I lose my products and customers in my test account when I upgrade?

No.  All of the data created in a test account will be maintained when you upgrade, so you will not lose any work.

Where can I get more information?

For more information on Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit or the NI-managed SOLO Server Test account, contact the  LabVIEW Partner Program at labviewpartnerprogram@ni.com

This FAQ states that a full account is provided for free for Add-ons hosted on the LabVIEW Tools Network.

What about add-ons that aren't hosted on the Tools Network?  Is there an alternate or paid method for obtaining a full account?

Hi Paul,

Great question.  For products not on the LabVIEW Tools Network or for LabVIEW Tools Network products that need more functionality than is available in Standard mode, you can use advanced mode licensing of Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit and use a paid account on SoftwareKey.com.  There is a tutorial on how to use Advanced mode that can be found here.  Pricing and purchasing information for the full SoftwareKey licensing solution can be found at http://www.softwarekey.com/

Hope this helps,

David
