LabVIEW Based Instruments for Power Applications

In this document, the Multisim (LabVIEW based) instruments used for power applications are presented.

Each instruments is demonstrated along with an example circuit.

1. Power Quality Measurement Instrument

Download this instrument that takes various single phase poqwer quality measurements on an input voltage and current of a signal, such as:

  • The RMS voltage
  • The RMS current
  • The instantaneous RMS power
  • The reactive and apparent power
  • The crest factor
  • The power factor

2. Load Controler

Download this instrument that allows the user to adjust the load and view the corresponding voltage and current. With this instrument, you cancustomize a pattern for the load value and see in simulation how the voltage accross and the current through react to these changes.

When you download the instruments (the LLB's), you need to copy them to the User LabVIEW instruments path. On Windows 7, the default User LabVIEW instruments path is:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\National Instruments\Circuit Design Suite 12.0\LVInstruments

If Multisim is already running, you will need to restart Multisim before you can use the instruments.

One final tip, Multisim can also tell you this folder.

  1. Click Options > Global Preferences
  2. Select the Paths tab
  3. The item "User LabVIEW instruments path" is the path on your computer
