DTMF Controlled Home Automation and Remotely controlled Vehicle for Surveillance

Project Description:

Conventionally, wireless-controlled robots and automation used IR and Radio Frequency circuits, which have the drawbacks of limited working range, limited frequency range, limited control and lack of security. Use of a mobile phone for home automation and surveillance can overcome these limitations. It provides the advantages of robust control, working range as larger as the coverage area of the service provider (range all over the world), no interference with other controllers and security.

DTMF Controlled Home Automation and Remotely controlled Vehicle for Surveillance” is capable of receiving a set of command (instructions) in the form of DTMF tones and perform the necessary operations. Here DTMF stands for “Dual tone multiple frequency”. We will be using a dedicated GSM module at the receiver end i.e. with the robot itself and send the commands using DTMF tones as per the required actions. We can control Automated Vehicles by DTMF tones generated in cell phone. It is also called “Programmable Automated Vehicle”. Because recording DTMF tones and play back will be able to control Automated Vehicle automatically.

In this project, we have designed the controlling of an Automated Vehicle and control of home appliances using DTMF technique. The prominent feature of the system designed is feedback mechanism system which ensures the user with acknowledgement of the operation performed. Reliable surveillance is a need of the current environment. The system should be easy to operate, efficient, cost effective & flexible for further improvements. A robotic system whose direction of motion can be controlled by simple interface which uses conventional cell phone network to establish connection and makes use of DTMF codes. In these days remotely operated vehicles are mostly needed in military applications. It is difficult for robots that are going to be used in military technology to become fully artificially intelligent. Our remotely controlled Automated Vehicle can also provide application for surveillance or remotely operated services such as providing delivery in absurd weather or provide help in natural disaster affected areas and also for remote access of home or industrial appliances/instruments. The operator controls it using normal cell phone interface. The system consists of main blocks: cell phone, micro controller (UNO), DTMF decoder circuit (MT8870D), hands-free cable, driver control logic, driver IC (l293d) & power supply unit. Also the very basic project has been implemented on NI Labview for realization of the system. The video can be watched from the link given below.
