NI VLM 3.1 Feature Preview – VLA Log Wizard

NI Volume License Manager 3.1 will be releasing Summer 2013 with a beta program to occur in May 2013. The new version contains many exciting features, some of which we will preview through the month of April. Please contact the author if you are interested in joining the beta program and putting these new features to work at your company soon.

Every time your agreement comes up for renewal, National Instruments requests that administrators send in a VLA Log. The VLA Log stores usage information of NI VLM-controlled software, such as check-in and check-out events, along with client information including Cost Center and Department. The VLA Log is big, sometimes hundreds of megabytes, and often doesn't fit in an email attachment. In that case, you have to upload the file to an FTP server and spend a lot of unnecessary time doing what should be a simple task.

In NI Volume License Manager 3.1, we have added the ability for NI VLM  to send your VLA Log to NI without using an email client or having to upload to an FTP server. When your agreement comes up for renewal or when you would like to submit the names of new end users to NI to grant entitlements, all you need to do is run the 'VLA Log Wizard,' which will transfer the file to NI from within NI VLM, using a secure Internet connection.

NI cares about the security of your data, so we have taken multiple precautions to ensure that the transfer of your log is safe and secure. The file is encrypted with a private key before transfer and is sent to NI using the HTTPS protocol, the Internet standard for secure data transfer. If you don't want to send your log through the wizard, you can select to save the log and send it to NI via email or FTP.

Finally, to ensure that your end users always receive their entitlements, such as support and self-paced online training, you can enable NI VLM to send the VLA Log automatically on a periodic basis.
