NI VLM 3.1 Feature Preview – Custom Field Batch Update

NI Volume License Manager 3.1 will be releasing Summer 2013 with a beta program to occur in May 2013. The new version contains many exciting features, some of which we will preview through the month of April. Please contact the author if you are  interested in joining the beta program and putting these new features to work at your company soon.

Custom fields are very useful to the overall management of your volume license agreement.  Knowing a user's department, manager, or cost center is often the best way to manage license groups or bill out for purchased software. However, your results are only as good as the data you are provided by the clients. If clients with the manager "Christopher Williams" enter "Christopher Williams", "Chris Williams", "C. Williams" or even nothing at all,  your efforts to bill out the usage is complicated by the extra step of reconciling those datasets outside of NI VLM.

In NI VLM 3.0, changing every "C. Williams", "Cwilliams" or "CW" to the same "Chris Williams"  takes a  lot of effort. You would have to make the change one user at a time. With NI VLM 3.1's custom field batch update feature, you can make the same change to multiple users at once. For example, you can change a set of client managers to  be the same manager.

Administrators also have the ability to revert those changes during their batch update session, in case they decide not to make any changes. Also, if a client entered spurious information, you can clear a custom field for a set of clients as well.
