Project Information

Project Title: Forest Fire Detection Using Optimized Solar - Powered Zigbee Wireless Sensor Networks

Hardware & Software Used: Hardware from various companies like Atmel, Texas Instruments, ATC Semitec Limited, etc.

Software: LabVIEW from National Instruments, Proteus Design Suite, Matlab & Simulink, com0com, PuTTY, Hyperterminal, Multisim, HAPSIM, AVR Studio 4, ExpressPCB, Debut Video Capture Software, Microsoft Word & Powerpoint, Notepad, and MS Paint.

What challenge/problem are you trying to solve through your application: The challenge is to create a new Forest Fire Detection System which overcomes the disadvantages of two Existing Systems which are explained in the video.

How does your application solves the above mentioned challenge/problem: By reducing the bulkness & cost and by increasing the overall efficiency of the System.

Description of Project:

This is an investigative project done to contribute to the Society in order to prevent Forest Fires. It mainly overcomes the drawbacks of Forest Fire Detection based on Moderate Resolution Imaging from Space by incorporating combined modules from the fields of Sensors, Embedded Systems, Power Electronics and Wireless Communication. Solar energy harvesting system with Maximum Power Point Tracking Algorithm is implemented for the long-run of the System. Detection of Abnormal Prowling and Rain has been added to the Fire Detection System for additional Security in border regions and hilly areas to detect trespassers and to warn about landslides, respectively.

An Early Warning System for Forest Fires, successfully in the global use

This is a terrestrial, digital, remote surveillance system which is capable of observing larger wooded regions, and to analyse, evaluate, link and store the collective data.

Due to its sensitivity, accuracy and reliability the system enables an early recognition of forest fires.

Zigbee is able to evaluate and classify the incoming data in multiple ways, connected to a central station. In the event of a recognized source of fire, it automatically sends out an alarm.

Thus protects entire eco-systems and cultural landscapes.
