What challenge/problem are you trying to solve through your application:

In the modern era blindness is a major threat to mankind. Our project is going to solve the problem of a blind person when walking on the road , climbing up and down the steps etc.
Moreorless it will help him/her in every movement.

How does your application solves the above mentioned challenge/problem:

Our smart helping stick will serve the purpose of the blind persons -
i) while they are walking on an uneven surface or if any hole comes on the way
ii) If they are close to any dead end
ii) Getting down from a staircase of his own etc.

Description of Project:

The project instrument i.e., The " Blind Helper Stick” consists various  sensors fitted to it.
An ultrasonic sensor fitted at the bottom of the stick will detect holes or any other abnormality  on the way of the blind man and will correspondingly provide proper indication in absence of smooth surface.
Likewise an IR proximity sensor will also be fitted just above the ultrasonic sensor and will detect obstruction or dead end on the way of the blind man. In the presence of obstruction it will provide an alert to the user.
For the indication purpose we have used a buzzer and a LED  which will be replaced by a vibrator, head phone and a speaker in the final stick.
Our system is embedded on arduino uno kit which has been further interfaced with NI’s LABVIEW software.
