What challenge/problem are you trying to solve through your application:

In the growth of population in world, people use vehicles like sedan to meet their comfort and necessity. This lead to heavy traffic, pollution etc. at the same time there is increase in traffic violation.

How does your application solves the above mentioned challenge/problem:

We have designed an In-Vehicle infotainment system which will continuously monitor a vehicle by giving information through GPS about the traffic rules of that particular location. If any vehicle violates the traffic rules i.e., crossing the speed limit and not obeying the traffic rules, it will give a warning signal to the driver in the infotainment system. The system also prevents non-licensees from driving. An important and very reliable human identification method is fingerprint identification .Fingerprint identification is one of the most popular and reliable personal biometric identification methods. The proposed system consists of a fingerprint scanner which is connected to infotainment system. A person, who wishes to drive the vehicle, should swipe his/her finger and fingerprint swiped in the device matches with the database, he/she can proceed for ignition, otherwise ignition will not work. This increases the security of vehicles and also ensures safe driving by preventing accidents. As people are busy with many works, they forget many other things like renewing of emission test, which is done every 6 months. This test will help in making the environment clean. The system is build to store the emission test certificate, so that the driver has a track of renewing the emission test.

Description of Project:

INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM

System Description

The infotainment system is developed using LabVIEW touch panel module software which is deployed on to the touch panel computer features an Intel Atom processor-based design that you can use to deploy human machine interface (HMI) applications. The system also helps you create complex and media-rich interfaces with the reliability, flexibility, and extended support of the Windows Embedded OS.

System Design

The system is developed for the following features

  1. Driver verification process
  2. Traffic rules monitoring
  3. Infotainment features

Driver verification process

The driver verification process starts its verification when the driver selects the Driving mode option at the startup .At the startup we have two mode of selection for the driver as shown in fig 1.They are

  1. Offline mode
  2. Driver mode

Figure .1:Select the mode of operation

Offline Mode

In the offline mode of operation, the driver is allowed to browse through only the home page, but not allowed to ignite the vehicle. The figure 2 shows the home page in offline mode

Figure 3: Driver Authentication Process

In this mode ,the driver is asked to swipe his/her finger twice on fingerprint scanner and after swiping twice ,it checks for match in database .If the fingerprint matches with the database ,the system displays the driver information as shown in fig 4 and the driver is allowed to ignite the vehicle. But in the other case, where the fingerprint doesn't find a match in the database, the driver is not allowed to ignite the vehicle and it goes back to the selection mode operation. In fig 3 shows the flowchart of the driver authentication process.

Traffic rules monitoring process

The system continually verifies speed limit with the data acquired from gps signal. When the vehicle speed is more than that of speed limit, it gives a warning signal in the screen displaying over speeding as shown in fig 5. Then the driver has to reduce the speed and reach to the speed limit. In the same way for no parking area or no stopping area, if the driver’s vehicle speed is less than 5km/hr and if the area is a no parking area. The system displays a warning signal to the driver as shown in fig 6.
