Poster_The Nab Neutron Spectrometer

Title: The Nab Neutron Spectrometer
Presenter: Aaron Sprow, University of Kentucky

Abstract: The Nab neutron decay correlation experiment requires efficient detection of a low-energy 30 keV proton and a coincident 50-750 keV electron. In addition to the requirement of 2 keV energy precision and a low-threshold trigger, the data acquisition system (DAQ) must also be capable of 10 ns timing to identify the initial hit of a backscattered electron. Using LabVIEW FPGA to program our FlexRIO module, we implemented a trapezoid FIR filter for such a trigger. After initially testing the system using a precision pulser, we measured the combined energy spectrum of radioactive sealed sources on Nab prototype detectors at Los Alamos National Lab. We present the results of these initial tests, and discuss plans for the next phase of development.
