Samsung Solorean – University of Texas Solar Vehicles Team

DescriptionProducts Used

Samsung Solorean

The Samsung Solorean is UT Solar Vehicles Team's latest solar-powered vehicle built by students.  It derives its power from the 1 kW solar array and stores the energy in a lithium-ion battery bank when the car is idle or powers the motor and various electronics when active. Members on the UT Solar Vehicles Team initially used the CompactRIO for battery protection.  However, the system quickly gained features thanks to the rapid development cycle enabled by the use of LabVIEW and the CompactRIO products.  Thus far, the Samsung Solorean's CompactRIO system has been the subject of three senior design projects. During June 2009, the team competed in the Formula Sun Grand Prix and received acclaim for the system's capabilities.  In preparation for the North American Solar Challenge 2010, UT Solar Vehicles Team members will continue to improve on the Samsung Solorean to ensure compliance with regulations.
