Edit some G# preferences

I was looking for a preference that would allow me to force the icon font compression to "off", but I could not find it.

So I tried to take a peek into the sources to see if I could add this in myself, but noticed that all the VIs in the G#IDE directory are password protected. Is this expected?

Hi Neil,

Nice to hear from you again. Yes, correct G#IDE is locked for old purposes. NI required that project provider code was locked when we started to use it many years ago, but maybe that is not the case any more.

However, it seems that it is always configured to "Automatic", even thought I really can't understand why you don't want autocompression on... it is like the best LabVIEW feature since "Undo" in LV5.

I just sent you a private message with a link where you can download IconEditor code dialogs that is unlocked.

By the way, missed you in Berlin. See you next year?

Hi Mattias, thanks for your quick response (as always )

I suppose I have never really given auto compression a chance, my OCD kicks in if icons have different font sizes. My problem is I usually have relatively long and descriptive VI names, so I always need to manually edit the icon to keep it down to three rows of text otherwise I cannot easily read it.

Thanks for the link, I will check it out and probably put in an option to limit the text to three lines also.

Yes unfortunately I had to miss the summit and am probably not going to be able to attend too many more for the near future, I have packed up my bags and relocated my family back to South Africa to be closer to family. I have two small children now, and raising them with just my wife and I in London was just too crazy for words.

By the way, is there any way to actually pay for the toolkit?

Hi,

If you fix something that other might benefit from, please send back the code and we can include it in the toolkit for the next release.

The toolkit is free according to the BSD license.

Take care,

Mattias

I had a quick look at this and I think it shouldn't be too much work. I will try to fit this into the next G#-release, which I hope will be released in September. It will include some features that I and others have wanted for some time.

Have you opened the code Mattias sent you or even tried implementing this?  I think it's great if we could get more involvement in developing G#, and I appreciate any feedback.

Even better than "Aitomatic" is "On". 😉

Hi Thomas,

I took a quick look at the code from Mattias, and agree it should not be

too much work. I am happy to help out with development (I think G# is

great), but my day job does not give me very much spare time at the moment,

and my night job is looking after two babies

Kind regards

Neil
