Installing LabVIEW 8.6.1 on Redhat Enterprise 6 64bit

Hi all,

We are trying to install LabVIEW 8.6.1 on a Redhat Enterprise 6 64bit distrib (Linux header is 2.6.32).

After having installed 32bit libraries that may be needed by LabVIEW, we started LabVIEW installation (without VISA nor GPIB) - successfully...

But on LabVIEW startup, we got an error : "Abort (core dumped)" - without details. See core dump enclosed...

We tried several solutions seen in different forums, without success (tune2fs, libOSMesa, reinstalling labview, .... )

Now we are a bit stuck, since the error message is not very detailled... Someone encountered such difficulties on linux 64bit ?

Thank you for your support and advices !

Christophe,

I'm going to look into this. LabVIEW 2011 was the first release to officially support RHEL6. Is there a specific reason that you are using 8.6.1?

Hello Randy,

Thank you for your answer, we were not aware that LV2011 was the first release to support RHEL6...

We have to use LV8.6.1 because it's one of our customer needs ...

Christophe,

I tried to reproduce your issue, but I was unsuccessful. It is possible that we have a difference in packages. I have attached the output of "rpm -qa" to this post. Do a dif against yours and see what I might have that you do not.

Hello,

I tried to install or uninstall packages so that my config matches best yours. Now only a few minor package differ from the 2 configs (*-devel, emacs, alsa, gimp ...).

Then I reinstalled LabVIEW, but I still have the same error message...

Enclosed 3 files :

- the list of package I had at first

- the list of package I have now to match your config.

- the new core dump I have (looks like pretty the same as the previous one)

My next question is what kind of machine is this? How new is it, what processor does it have, and how much memory? It could be that we have an issue with CPU information and an old library.

We have a quite new machine, 12 CPU (Intel Xeon X5660 @ 2.8 Ghz), 11.6 Go RAM.

It is possible that it might be the machine, but we are not sure. Do you have a copy of LabVIEW 2011? If so, can you try and in stall it and launch (required a couple of extra packages to be installed for me) and see if it reports the same error? If it does, then it may be that the CPU Information DLL we have needs to be updated. If 2011 launches fine, then it is probably a different issue.

Hello Randy,

We tried to install LV2011 but had some problems :

1) during installation : a database error (see LV2011_install_error.txt)

2) while launching : another error and a core dump (see LV2011_launch_error.txt)

We only installed a new package (libXinerama.i686) for labview to run. Is there other packages to install (see rpm_list)?

thank you

Christophe

Christophe,

I'm not sure on error 1. I was unable to reproduce that. In the end, it means that LabVIEW will just run really, really slow. Have you tried reinstalling to see if the error does not happen the second time? Since this is a fresh install of LabVIEW, you should be able to rename /usr/local/natinst/LabVIEW 2012VIObjCache/lv2011corecache.vidb to VIObjCache/objFileDB.vidb. This will in the end solve this issue.

For error 2, this sounds like a localization issue. What is you locale set as (run 'locale')? Mine is the following:

~]$ locale

LANG=en_US.UTF-8

LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"

LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8"

LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8"

LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8"

LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8"

LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"

LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8"

LC_NAME="en_US.UTF-8"

LC_ADDRESS="en_US.UTF-8"

LC_TELEPHONE="en_US.UTF-8"

LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US.UTF-8"

LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US.UTF-8"

LC_ALL=
