Often when I visit the NI Community (specifically the FIRST Community), the bar near the top of the page says "Welcome, nathand" but if I click my username, or the Start a Discussion link (for example), I discover I'm not actually logged in. I'm not sure if this is an issue with permissions not transferring from the NI Forums - often I'll visit that first - or some other issue, but it makes it hard to keep track of unread messages because the "Mark as read" link "works" (no error) but doesn't seem to do anything when I'm in this state, and it doesn't track the threads I've looked at.
I've seen this as well. I believe there's a distinction between being logged in to ni.com in general, and being logged into community specifically. They share ni.com user profile information, but maintain their own cookies. And the community site may require a server session (which would likely have a limited lifetime) for some actions, vs ni.com may only require the cookies be set, and some of those appear to live for about a year (unless you explicitly clear them).
None of this is abnormal per se, but it would definitely be convenient if the community site would maintain the login state longer.
It would be also nice that when we click a link to a private community from an e-mail and we have to login, that it would redirect us to the original link instead of the welcome page. It is inconvenient to have to go back to the e-mail and click the link again now that we have logged in.
@Fabiola: Going back to the community start page when you log in is very frustrating isn't it.
@nathand: I think this problem is also related to issues when 'liking' a document.

This issue should have been fixed with an upgrade we did Tuesday evening. Can you verify whether you are still being redirected to the Community homepage.
It still does it. I clicked in "View full discussion" link fro this message from my e-mail. I was not logged in, so I logged in and it send me to the Community homepage. I had to go back to my e-mail, click on the link again and then I was able to reply to your post.
So, it is not fixed yet.
So, it is not fixed yet.
I am also still seeing the issue it seems. In fact, I get an intermittent dialog box which pops up and reads: "http://decibel.ni.com says: Internal Server Error"
It happens about once every 30 seconds to a minute. This is usually the indicator to me that I need to login, again. If I attempt to post a message before logging in again (for example, replying to a post and clicking Add Reply), I see the message: "You are no longer logged in. Please log in to continue."
Please try to clear your cookies by navigating here, as this issue has been resolved.
After doing this please let me know if you are still seeing this problem.
Even after clearing cookies, after loggin in it sent me to the Community Home Page.
What browser are you using? Did you go here to clear your cookies?
After doing this, please also clear your history and cache.
I am using Chrome. Yes, I clicked on where you said "go here to clear cookies" and the page clicked on the button on the lower right that said "Delete Cookies". And got the following message:
After this I cleared the cached and history from my Chrome "from the beginning of time" ( I hope that is far enough back )
Then went to my e-mail, clicked on "view full discussion" it brought me here, I clicked on the top left to log in, and ... I was redirected to the Community home page.
Do you want me to do a jing video of the steps I am following? As far as I can tell this is not fixed. I will try in Internet Explorer later, as it is I already spent way too much time on this.
I am also using chrome and came to this page here without logging in yet. After I saw that I could not reply, I logged in on top of the page.
---> Poof!!!! Instead of staying here after logging in, I ended up on the community page.
On a related note, it would be really nice if you could allow autofill on the username and password fields (currently disabled). This is not Fort Knox!!! Even the NI profile login allows autofill! I think since I started coming here, 50% of all my keystrokes were for authentication. Very tedious!
I see exactly the same thing in Firefox.
There is currently an existing issue in the process of resolution in regards to our application servers timing out, and therefore any sessions stored on that server will be lost, which may be causing many of these issues that have arised related to authentication, such as redirecting to the home page upon following a private link and logging in, liking not sticking, and appearing to be logged in when the system has actually lost that particular session. These issues appear to originate from the same cause, and our IT developers are scheduling a fix as soon as possible.
I apologize for the inconvenience.
