Description

The primary duty is test system LabVIEW and TestStand architecture, code creation and change support which includes working with external test designers or internal research & development, product engineering and supply chain defining, developing and implementing new test systems or changing existing test systems.  An additional position responsibility is providing engineering support to existing test systems deployed internally or at external production processes.  May project manage outsourced test design as needed.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designs test software that performs product testing that evaluates and decides if hardware sub-assemblies, circuit boards, optics systems, motion control and other components are acceptable.  Creates and supports test software residing on custom test hardware that ensure components, sub-assemblies, sub-systems and systems meet design verified performance during manufacturing and service.  Conceptualizes designs, develops, verifies, validates, documents, implements and supports custom product functional test.  Designs, selects or recommends both software architecture and code solutions using multiple engineering software tools or industry standard codes (primary code is LabVIEW).
  • Performs internal and external test installation and transfers, training, test repeatability and reproducibility planning and reporting.  Defines and uses engineering lab test instruments and tools in support of product and test problem solving.
  • Supports released custom tests internally and in supply chain as single point of contact.  Responds to test issues in production pipeline for assigned equipment.
  • Coordinates with research & development, product support engineering, supply chain and other areas to ensure testing is integrated into the product development/change/production/failure analysis process.  Works on teams from new product concept to end of life with focus on improving the customer experience and manufacturing metrics.  Coordinates with operations, service, lines of business and other areas for assigned projects and test responsibilities for new projects, continuous improvement and business continuity.
  • Develops acceptance criteria to determine whether a product has passed a test, is functioning properly and is delivering accurate results.  Provides technical expertise support for product and test bed root cause identification and solution options with verification.
  • Analyzes and tests products used by customers, as well as internal Company production instruments and test equipment. 
  • Manages outside suppliers performing test.  Partners with or project manages outsourced test design and development.

  Qualifications 

EDUCATION:

  • BS in a technical field (Software or Electrical) preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Typically 5+ Years Experience
  • National Instruments LabVIEW certifications (Developer and Architect) preferred.
  • National Instruments TestStand certifications (Developer and Architect) preferred.
  • Basic computer skills in advanced applications
    (Access, PowerPoint, JMP, etc.).

  REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

  • Certified LabVIEW and TestStand developer and architect.  Previous experience  with one or more of the following: C++, JAVA, Visual Basic (VB), Lua, Steeplechase, CITECT, NI Developer Suite, Visual Studio, NI Vision Development, VMware, Advanced Installer.
  • Skills with mathematical and analytical techniques.
  • Experienced with JMP, Visio, Adobe and MS Office software suite.
  • Knowledge of and experience with electrical product areas including circuits, component, power, signal, microprocessor, motion and light with analytical and problem solving knowledge.
  • Knowledge of and experience with computer hardware, operating systems (Linux, W2K/XP/7), communication and bus protocols (RS232, CAN, USB1/2/3, Firewire, PXI/VXI, etc.), networking (Ethernet, CAN, and topologies) and network equipment (routers, switches, hubs, etc.).
  • Experienced in analytical tools: Logic Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Function/Waveform Generators, Spectrum Analyzers, Power Source Analyzers, meters and multi-meters, etc.
  • Capable in component, assembly/dis-assembly, repair skills for: electro-mechanical assemblies, cables, power, commercial test and measurement equipment, custom designed test systems, Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs), fluidics, optics standalone or embedded in test equipment
  • Capable of generating functional block and timing diagrams, circuit schematics, engineering drawings for cables, mechanical, sub-assembly, sub-systems and assemblies.
  • Generating need, goal and objectives, requirements, product and test concepts and architecture.
  • Working knowledge of application software, firmware, and embedded software.
  • Skilled in International Organization for Standardization Quality Management System (ISO QMS) process requirements and adherence (Test and Product Support Engineering, Component Engineering, Product Development, Line of Business/Project Management Team (LOB/PMT), Quality, Supply Chain).
  • Demonstrated skills in data analysis, problem identification and statements, problem solving processes (Six Sigma) and solution identification, verification and validation.
  • Experience with total production process flows (sub-supplier to customer shipment), strategy, concept, flow and metrics.
  • Demonstrated interaction skills and collaborative work with all levels of internal and external individuals, both technical and non-technical.
  • Ability to communicate, verbally and written, to technical and non-technical teams.
  • Technical writing skills and an ability to create test plans, reports, SOPs and Work Instructions that are accurate and understandable by all technical levels.
  • Self-organizing with prioritization abilities in a rapid event technical environment.

  PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

  • May be required to lift, move and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Some travel required both domestic and international.
