LUGG meeting followup

LUGG members,

Hope you are all having a good fall so far.  Just wanted to followup on some items from our last user group meeting:

  1. Mike Rodriguez asked about the ethernet port on the new Compact Vision System and whether or not it supported Power over Ethernet (PoE). Unfortunately that model does not; however, NI does offer several GigE framegrabbers boards that provide GigE ports which do support PoE.  The basic two port board is the PCIe-8236.
  2. Steve Marlow asked if DataPlugins can be written using LabVIEW.  DataPlugins can be created using VBS, C++ or LabVIEW. For LV development, you need version 8.6 or later, and need to download the LabVIEW DataPlugin SDK that matches your version.
  3. Brian Bean whether the new UI support for Real-Time systems supported touchscreens and if the interface between RT system and display is proprietary.  The technology used is not proprietary, and is in fact XFCE.  The UI will support a display device as well as input devices (mouse/keyboard), so touchscreens that mimic the pairing of those devices along with a display should work in theory.
  4. I am cross-posting this on the LUGG community page on ni.com.  If you have not yet joined that community, please consider doing so.  This page can host documents and discussions and act as the virtual extension of our quarterly meetings.  I will place a PDF of my slides on that page later today, and ask other presenters to also share their slides via this page.
  5. Lastly, please consider attending NIDays DC on Tuesday November 18th.  This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the latest from NI and get a free taste of what it's like to attend NIWeek.  The event is free and we have 7 parallel session tracks that should satisfy all interests and experience levels.  We'll also be giving away lots of great prizes; at our last NIDays, Mike Chapman won registration for NIWeek 2014! If you think you can attend, please register here.

Thanks everyone.  Hope to see you all at NIDays DC!
