Dear Joe,

As an old Linux customer (6008 USB device on laptop currently under Fedora20) I want to very sincerely and warmly thank you and the  NI team for this release.
I encountered one trivial issue only, the non-GPL MODULE_LICENSE text in the two occurrences of file nikal.c .
All the rest from download through initialisation to running my nidaqmxbase  C applications worked flawless "out of the box".

Again many many thanks

Yanqele

I am glad to hear you have been able to upgrade successfully 🙂

The NI-KAL kernel module is not GPL-licensed, and likely will remain that way.

I definitely failed to emphasize something and apologize for that omission.

It is about daring to modify the MODULE_LICENSE text in NIKAL.

When idling the NI MODULE_LICENSE text in nikal.src I emphasized that the module is NOT  GPL-licensed.

I exclusively use it to drive an old personally owned NI-6800 on a privately owned Linux laptop for hobby-like scientific academic purposes.

I do ask all readers to be aware that doing what I did is an infringment - which in my environment (retired university professor),  and within my understanding, does not harm anybody.

The version of NI-KAL that shipped with NI-DAQmxBase 15.0 has a bug in some conditionally compiled code for handling certain types of memory mappings.  The condition wasn't robust against changes in newer kernel versions, causing it to attempt to call an EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL function when it wasn't supposed to.

Versions of NI-KAL newer than 15.0 (I believe 15.0.1 is already posted to ni.com) have fixed this issue.
