Just a thought, but if you don't have a spare computer sitting around, a small ARM based board might do the trick. You will not have the RAM for doing major work, but should be good for hosting a small site and setting up a repo:
The Cubiboard has an octa-core CPU and 2 Gb of RAM while the Banana Pi has a dual-core with 1 Gb. The Banana Pi might be more straight-forward to setup as there are Ubuntu, Debian and other OS images available while the Cubietruck seems more mixed. Raspberry Pi distros still seem kind of limited.

That's a great idea. The downside is I'm not sure you could just use on of the out of the box preconfigured turnkey appliances. You would have to do a lot of the configuration yourself. It's definitely doable though.
So basically a banana pi runs standard ubuntu/debian out of the box - that is pretty cool.
On a similar note, here is a vpn solution for a rapsberry pi. http://www.pivpn.io

So definitely worth thinking about. Probably use a lot less power than a standard computer as well.
