Signal Processing First

Description Book Information

Signal Processing First is intended for introductory courses in Digital Signal Processing and Signals and Systems. It is derived from DSP First: A Multimedia Approach, published in 1997, which filled an emerging need for a new entry-level course not centered on analog circuits in the ECE curriculum. It was also successfully used in 80 universities as a core text for linear systems and beginning signal processing courses. This derivative product, Signal Processing First SPF contains similar content and presentation style, but focuses on analog signal processing.

The DSP First companion page also contains labs, mini-projects, and demos for using LabVIEW to assist in teaching courses in Introductory Signal Processing and Signals and Systems using Signal Processing First.

Download LabVIEW Labs and Mini-Projects

The 12 LabVIEW based Lab assignments and 9 mini-projects provide a great teaching resource for enhancing student comprehension.  The step-by-step lab procedures are designed to introduce both signal processing and LabVIEW concepts to students new to both topics.

Try Online Interactive LabVIEW Demos

The 19 browser-based DSP demonstrations built with LabVIEW bring key concepts to life, allowing students to learn through interactive exploration and visualization

All that you need to get started is LabVIEW 8.5 or newer available on most university campuses through the local NI Academic Site License.  Students wanting to work with the software at home can purchase the LabVIEW Student Edition DVD, which includes a full version of the software complete with many toolkits and modules.

In summary the latest edition of Signal Processing First and LabVIEW provide a complete platform for hands-on learning and experimentation for the classroom, the lab, and the dorm room.
