Call for Presenters - Denver CLD Summit 2014

Hello Everyone,

We are seeking presenters for the  3rd annual Denver CLD Summit on Oct. 28th, 2014.  The topic of this year's CLD Summit is fairly open.Examples of topics may include (but are not limited to):

  • Software Engineering Tools and Methodologies
  • Modular architecture (Plug-ins, etc.)
  • GUI design
  • Deployment and Release management
  • Quality assurance (e.g. using VI Analyzer, etc.)
  • Licensing

As this summit is intended to be fairly interactive, the presentation could be considered as much a group discussion. If you would like to present or chair a discussion, please contact me. For those of you who are pursuing the "points" system of NI re-certification, a presentation here will count towards your points total.

I encourage anyone planning to attend to join the Community group:  CLD Summit - Denver Colorado
Please note, however, that the CLD Summit is open only to current NI CLD's and CLA's and is considered one of the benefits of NI Certification. If you're not up to presenting but have ideas for topics that you would like to see covered, please post them on the Community page. The success of this event is entirely dependent on participation from the local developer community.

Thanks!

-John

Hey John,

I would like to hear about GUI develpment that goes beyond the typical GUI presentation (i.e. NI best practices).  How about talking about GUIs in the context of wireless devices on multiple platforms?  I would love to have a discussion of

  1. How do we develop something that is scalable and portable?
  2. Is it possible to build a lightweight UI application that can easily be deployed on multiple clients, or
  3. Is LabVIEW an even in contention to be an appropriate environment to develop a professional looking UI?
  4. If it is not, then how do we develop applications that may exploit the measurement strengths of NI technologies while providing reasonable access to data for visualization and control (such as web services coupled with external technologies like AJAX, jQuery, etc.)?

My thought is that we are living in an age which has changed drastically from the Windows dominated development environment of 10 years ago and as LabVIEW developers I am not sure we are not all quite keeping pace with this.  With regards to consulting, some of us are probably grappling with the question of whether we should be the ones to develop a UI or whether this should be the domain of a specialist.

Anyway, those are my thoughts.  Look forward to see what comes out of all of this.

Cheers, Matt

Sounds great! I'll propose this to the commitee this week and add it to the proposed agenda. We need 6 total presentations/discussions. If we get too many, we'll start prioritizing them, so stay tuned.
