Update: This discussion applies to Issues from the 2010 FTC season and is no longer relevant for current FTC competition software.
We are in a similar boat, rookie team new to Labview, and we haven't had any luck mapping buttons or other parts of the controller station to our robot motors in the teleopbasic vi. We'd like to be able to control an NXT motor with the buttons and implemented a case structure to do this. (the part of the program we've adapted is shown below)
Another problem we're having - if we start the controller station program without the FCS program running, the joystick and pad map correctly. as soon as we start the FCS program, the joystick and pad functions switch, so we have to control our basic drive motors with the pad rather than the joystick.
We would appreciate a little insight here.
thanks!

Hello Elaine,
Thank you for providing the VI for review. Running the code you presented, I do not see the same behavior with respect to the D-Pad. If you toggle the 'Mode' button on the game pad, is your system able to recover joystick control?
Thank you very much for your time. I look forward to your follow up.
Cheers,

I will try toggling the Mode button.
As I mentioned in the original question, we were not able to control the
Lego motors using the buttons - can you help us with that?
thanks,
