Release GPIB-USB-HS in OSX

I'd like to use a GPIB-USB-HS with a VM under VirtualBox. However, since I have the NI drivers loaded in the Mac, VBox insists that the device is in use by another program. (one of the NI daemons one presumes). Is there a way to force the system to release the GPIB-USB-HS so it can be attached to the VM?
