blackfin fonts limitation

Now we try to use the LV Embedded module for Blackfin. We are using evaluation version of software and the Blackfin BF548 eval kit. We have fonts and language (cyrilic) limitations when develope User Interface. Are these limitations only of evaluation version or the full version too?

Thanks.

Hi,

Can you please describe the limiations that you are experiencing in a bit more detail? (A screenshot of the front panel would be very helpful). Also, what version of LabVIEW Embedded for Blackfin are you using, and what OS? When you say language limitations, do you have your regional settings set to a language other than English? Do you notice the same issue when using LabVIEW without the Embedded Module?

Thanks!

Hi Meghan.

Thanks for your answer.

We are using Windows XP pro, LabView Embedded for Blackfin 8.6, LabView 8.6 ( builded in the embedded module) and VisualDSP++5.0 Update 6.

The regional settings are:

Country - Russian Federation

Language - Russian.

The problem is that we can't create user interface on board in Russian. We can't change size and style of font, written in Russian. On the PC display we can make changes of font, but on the on board screen of BF548 we see some signs without changes.

In attachment you can find pictures, which are:

Lvbf1 - front panel in English

Lvbf1board - the same front panel on the on board screen

Lvbf2 - front panel with "Amplitude" in Russian

Lvbf2board - the same front panel on the on board screen

Lvbf3 - simple text in Russian

Lvbf3board - the same on the on board screen

Lvbf4 and Lvbf4board - the same text in English

Lv5 - multylanguage front panel in LabView 8.6

In all examples Lables were replaced by Captions.

Thanks.

The Blackfin platform does not run LabVIEW, it uses a C based display API called Nano-X to do front panels. Unfortunately, we have limited font support for Nano-x. We only support Helvetica, and there is no support for foreign languages. As stated in the LabVIEW Embedded for Blackfin Help,

Limitations with Fonts (Blackfin)
When you build a VI into an application, LabVIEW scales the fonts by the scale factor you enter in the build specification.

The width of the system font on the target is slightly different than the width of the system font on Windows, which means the length of text is longer in a Blackfin application than the text in the corresponding Blackfin VI.

Blackfin supports Helvetica 12, 14, 18 and 24-point fonts.

I wish that there was more we could do to help. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I made a Cyrillic font for "Electronics Workbench MultiSIM8".
You can download here: "http://digsys20-27.pip.digsys.bg/install/EWB%20FONT/TAHOMAewb.ttf".
Download to any folder. Right-click the file and Select "install".
Run "Electronics Workbench MultiSIM8". From the menu bar select "Options\Sheet Properties".
From the window, select the tab "Font". Select all checkboxes in the frame "Change All" and checkbox "Save as default".
From the list of fonts, select "TahomaEWB". Confirm with "OK" and you have a Cyrillic "Electronics Workbench MultiSIM8".

Thanks to: Bato Corporation

Nice job!
