Always Show the Connector Pane

Status: Completed
Available in LabVIEW 2011

My idea is simple: Put the connector pane on the front panel next to the VI icon.

Why: Right clicking to show the conpane means extra clicks that would not be necessary if it was always there.  It would also be solve the problem of saving the VI with the connector pane hiding the VI icon.

can we also have this in the Block Diagram view.  Useful to know if the variable is used or not if deleting from control or indicator or other needed change.

I saw this in the 2011 Beta, and noted that, to me, it was more "natural" to have the Icon on the left and connector pane on the right.  I asked if anyone tested these two orientations to see which users liked better, and was told "We probably would not change the feature design (i.e. swap the position of the connector pane and icon) unless there was a clear consensus to do so in the IE discussion thread."

So what do you think?  If both Icon and Connector pane are to be shown, which do you want "first" (I'm assuming you are using a left-to-right written language, where "first" is on the left)?

Of the two, the icon more uniquely identifies the VI.  The connector pane is "just" the function prototype.  The conpane is useful and important enough that I want to be able to see it at all times, but if the VI's window is underneath another window and I was only able to see one or the other, it's the icon that I want to see.

so my vote is for the Icon on the outside, as shown in the original idea.

(and conpane on BOTH BD and FP!!)

Really good idea. I sure get frustrated switching back and forth constantly...
