Cleanup diagram - Improvements required

Status: New

Cleanup diagram is not much used (Personally I allign the diagram myself manually). But if we have few improvements with the tool we can use it atleast in sub vis more often.

At present the Cleanup diagram tool introduces unncessary wire bends eventhough it can be avoided. So it would be great if this is taken care properly and unncessary wire bends are removed.

Manually alligned without wire bends

Wire bends are introduced once the Cleanup diagram is done.

It seems to prioritize the horizontal and vertical distance alot higher than "avoid extra bends" making that setting virtually useless.

Also, why cant i set vertical distance to 0? If i group objects and auto arrange with Vertical compress it's vertical distance 0 ...

In your example you'll also see a strange effect if you activate "place all controls to the left", as it'll align them on the leftmost part of the controls, in this case the beginning of the label.

I am curious about this chaos button that brings a lot of disorder in your clean VIs.

Yeah, clean-up needs a better algorithm.

First I though your first picture is the messy one, and the second is the cleaner version according to you and had to reread the text to find out the opposite 😄 I'm cleaning up regularly and I'm used to it by now. It is a time-saver for me certainly. My colleague does not do it at all and I'm going crazy when seeing them programming / painting / pixel-by-pixel-moving and of their wires flowing from right to left.
