Default Documentation for New VIs

Status: New

There should be a text entry option in the LabVIEW options Window to enter the default Documentation for VIs that are created. It helps in keeping the Standards in VI documentation and forms a template for the Developer to enter the common content once and specific contents in seperate section after the VI is developed.

The typical way to deal with this is to create a template VI with your desired options and place it in the LabVIEW\Templates folder.

You can create new VIs from your template rather than the default.

Maybe an option to specify the location of a "File-> New VI" (Ctrl-N) template would be useful, but it saves maybe one or two clicks from using the existing functionality...

Now is the right time to use %^<%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%S%3uZ>T

Phillip describes some useful workarounds for the time being, but Anish makes a good point here. The default templates work only for new blank VIs. Some of the other settings apply no matter how you create the VI, like "Create SubVI From Selection" or making a new ability VI on an XControl. For some companies, such a "default documentation" setting could still be useful.
