Diagram Grid Contrast

Status: New

With today’s high resolution monitors, the old grid shows up too heavy. For me and many others I have talked to, we like using the grid, but we like it soft so it does not become distracting. To make the grid soft, it is very difficult to set since the slider is very small.

The easy fix is to simply increase the slider size so we can dial in a small contrast level.

On all of my FPs, the objects are aligned on the grid. But, as far as I can remember, I have never changed the default contrast (10). Therefore five settings would be enough for me. But I'm not opposed to have more.

OK, if you use such a fine grid that >>50% of the background pixels are "grid" AND you use the two-tone "graph paper" grid option that needs two grey levels, I can see that the diagram is gettting a little dark! 😄

What's the point of your grid settings? The default plain 12 grid seems sufficient for all I do. 🙂

altenbach, I see your point. On the other hand user option are user _option_ and I think they should be all applicable in a consistent way Smiley Wink

I use the graph paper draw style, with the coarser grid size (the darker one) almost of the same size of the default 16. I just like to have a (faint) idea of what happens in the middle...  Smiley Happy ...but it is also possible that having used LabView for about 17 years doing my best for a good readibility, I have become too picky about the APPEARANCE of the block diagrams that I write ... FYI, if you can get the keyboard focus onto the slider, you can use the arrow keys for fine grain control. While verifying this, I discovered that the tab order for that page of the Options dialog in LV 2012 is completely wonky, so if you put your keyboard cursor in the box for grid size and hit the tab key 15 times, you'll get the keyboard focus on the slider. I'll file the CAR.

My comments about the keyboard are just to present a workaround. The idea is a good idea.

Wouldn't it be easier to set the default colour? If the grid colour was set to the foreground colour of the panel / block diagram, you could even change it using the paint brush tool.
