Display VI version in Tools bar For any vi

vi.png

My use LabVIEW 2010,Often saved a vi(8.5) as high-version .

Alternatively, when saving the vi, the programmer could be proposed to choose the former LV version.

Sorry ,My English no good.

This idea is very similar to this one. The second suggests the version number in the title bar.

I disagree. The toolbar is already crowded and we need a significant horizontal window size to show all items. This is a serious problem, especially for VIs that should have a small FP. (Here is a related idea that would solve this issue)

The windows title bar is a better place to show the version.

Workaround for now: if you look in the File>>VI Properties dialog, in the list of "Changes", you'll see an entry if the VI was loaded from a previous LV version. It lists what version it came from. You can get directly to that list when you close the VI from the Save Changes dialog -- click on List Unsaved Changes, and that same note will be there.

Really? That's already massively crowded. I can pretty much *never* see the unsaved changes asterisk any more. Current info in title bar:

* Name of VI (that is, the fully qualified name, including any libraries, because just the file name is insufficient to identify the VI)

* Custom VI Title (if any)

* Name of project

* Name of target in project

Here's a typical VI in my current project:

TitleBar.png

There's no room up there for "2010f2" or "2010 SP1" or "10.0.0.0".

On the other hand, since the project name is included in the lower left corner of the VI, if you got rid of that, then maybe the version could go in the title bar. But I'd rather be able to see my unsaved changes asterisk.

I have a question: How bad would it be if the button bar on a VI panel went from one row of buttons to two rows? This just occurred to me, and looking through a couple of my projects, it seems like that would be ok for most VIs I've written.

AQ, I suggest you add that as a separate idea where people can have a discussion about it.

Personally, I think I probably would not like it, both because it takes up some space from the code (although with today's high res displays, this is less of an issue) and because it would encourage NI to push more stuff on to it, until it would probably end up looking like Word 2003 (which, incidentally, isn't necessarily a bad thing, just something I'm afraid of without seeing an actual mockup).
