I think the topic of Application Instance can be confusing. It might be simpler to describe creating a new Project from the target VI, then dragging ShowHidden Core VI into the project. This makes it possible to open the target VI, open the ShowHidden Core VI and run as described.
It took me ten minutes to figure this out from the rather arcane description of Working with Application Instances referenced on this support page.
I'm thinking most people may need to expose hidden controls long before they are into the use of multiple Application Instances.
Also, the Working with Application Instances page refers one to the name of the Instance in the lower left corner of the front panel. Mine says "WearTester_v2.0.lvproj/My Computer" and I cannot tell if this is truncated or not. It seems like it might be, but there is no "hover tip" or way to select and advance character-by-character through that field.
