Make the global variable icon double in size on the block diagram every time it is referenced by a VI in the project.

So this is OK!

This is not so good. Although this suggestion is semi-facetious it is an immediate indicator of poor coupling

That's where it should go really! The runtime engine can detect this and just popup a dialog saying "Ahem, lost marbles detected. I'll just park you here in a root-loop deadlock for your own safety...".

But the "Are you sure" should add another " you're sure" at the end of each iteration so that an impending memory leak will eventually stop the idiot in his tracks.

"Are you sure you're sure you're sure you're.........."?
