Icon Editor Title Text Entry

Status: New

The most common icon that I use in LabVIEW has a "title" section at the top.  It is so common, that when this is used, LabVIEW moves the Text Entries below it.  BUT, they don't allow for automatic entry INTO the title field.  Instead they allow 4 lines of text that all gets compressed when you use 4 lines of text.

Instead of the 4th line of text, how about an entry for the Title, it will appear in the small window at the top of the icon.

I'd use it.

Except title should go at the top.

For that reason LabVIEW has a feature called library or class. If u use these concepts u have the feature u are requesting.

Good point Karsten. Even though virtually all VIs I write are in a library or class I still like this (but wish I could give it 1/2 kudo)

(Offtopic - I wish the idea exchange had some kind of a radio button for ideas. Something like "Neat", "I would use it" and "I need this now!")

I'd rather use a library or icon template too.

But for generating icon templates, this could be really neat.

@Steve: your off-topic sounds good to me - if you create an idea, i'll be happy to kudos it Smiley Happy

The library templates already put text in the header. Then when you add VIs in that library, the text in the header is already applied.

I think the idea is to add that feature to vis which are not part of a library. Almost every vi I write is part of a library so for me this would not be all that useful. But for those vis outside a library (maybe a top level vi) it might be nice to have this.

Of course if you do not want your vi in a library you could create a temporary library, edit the icon template, create your vi by adding it to the library, then drag it out of the library.

You can already do this (and I do this often) by using the correct tag name for the layer. See here for more info.
