Implement Broken VI status

Status: Declined

Any idea that has received less than 2 kudos within 2 years after posting will be automatically declined.

When making changes to a Main Program, we have no idea how it is affecting all the other VI's in the project at a glance. Recommend adding a "red-x" indication next to any VI, Control, Type-Def, etc. in the project explorer that has been detected as a broken VI which will allow the programmer to investigate, and/or make the required changes as directed by the status indicated in the Project Explorer.

The feature you request is supported through the Error List Window. The items marked with a Red X in the Error List Window are actually broken. The ones listed without the red X are the ones that are bad only because they depend upon the broken one. Anything not listed is in good condition.

If you were unaware of this feature, does knowing about it remove the need for your idea here?

If you were aware of this feature, please detail how adding this information in the project tree would be more useful than the information in the Error List Window.

I think that the project explorer should have the full responsibility of project staus, as it already does with other notifications (i.e. VI is missing, deleted, in depenency status, etc.) I keep the project explorer visible at all times. I have several older versions of the main programs listed in the project explorer. At some point, I may change a subVI that "breaks" the older main program versions. I may not notice the "broken" situation for some time, thus creating the undesirable situation.

You are correct about how good LabVIEW does this in the error window. You may perceive this request as a duplication of efforts, to be applied to the project explorer. The "red-x warning" that I am proposing in the project explorer will obviously then lead you to the error window for specific details.

Thanks for clarifying. We'll leave the idea open and see what other feedback develops.
