Interactive Layout by using the "KIELER"

Status: Declined

Within the KIELER-Project (see Linki below) Layout Algorithms are used very Powerful and interactive.

The project is free and opensource.

For example the "Ptolemy project" is using the algorithms and I never like to miss such a powerful graphic-Layout-Design anymore.

It would be a big improvment, if LabView could be operated in the same way.

Take a look to KIELER: http://rtsys.informatik.uni-kiel.de/confluence/display/KIELER/Overview

We are already aware of KIELER and even work directly with folks who work on the Ptolemy project from time to time. Diagram clean up uses algorithms from that project.

Ah! Now we have someone to blame for the WMDD(*) called "Diagram clean up"...

(*) Weapon of mass diagram destruction

I didn't know, that algorithms of Ptolemy are already used, because LabView is far away from the powerful GUI of Ptolemy or KIELER. Using their algorithms is one thing. But Integrating the algorithms to a powerful interactive GUI without meking it to a WMDD is what the users of labView Really need. Come on, the BlockDiagram-Editor is very old. I am using HighDefinition-24"-Screens. Sometimes I want to use some binoculars to place an item. 😄
