NI should automatically generate LabVIEW crash reports and send data to NI with User Permission

Status: Completed
Available with NI Error Reporting feature in LabVIEW 2011 and later

Many Windows application are automatically capturing crash report information and emailing that data back to the manufacturer once the User has given their permission. This results in alot of detailed information being captured and sent to the manufactuer with very little effort by the User. National Instruments should do the same thing. Bugs that have eisted in LV for many years need to be fixed in short order, NI needs information to do that.

LabVIEW already has such a system. When you load LV after a crash you get the option of sending the crash data (and possibly get an answer as to what happened) or continue. Unless you disabled this dialog, you should be seeing this.

If you're talking about automatically sending the info each time, it's possible, but we would need to hear from NI whether this can actually help.

I can also point out this idea - http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/Crash-report/idi-p/1222058

I just wanted to let everyone know that we are working on completely revamping the crash/warning reporting system within the LabVIEW IDE and RTE. Although we haven't moved this idea to in development, we are working on a system that will attempt to get a stack crawl or dump file from every crash that LabVIEW runs into.

All I know is that LV is crashing frequently and more often than not no error message or lvlog is generetaed. When this happens Technical Support" keeps saying "send us a repeatable example along with your code and we'll look into it. If the error reporting system is so good, Developers wouldn't have to do any of that. NI needs to get up to date with the latest automatic error reporting technologies so the the product gets more reliable without such a huge burden on the Developers.
