Revamp front panel controls and user interface design

Status: New

A long time ago LabVIEW used to have a great set user interface design tools, and the buttons and objects looked great. Since then it seems that Visual Studio and other text based languages have surpassed LabVIEW in user interface design. I would like LabVIEW to once again become one of the greats for user interface design. For instance resizing of the application window during runtime is not the easiest thing in LabVIEW.

I completely, completely agree with this statement, but it's too broad to Kudos. Even if it got 1000 votes, where would R&D start with this idea? "Subsets" of this idea are posted all around the Idea Exchange, and I would encourage readers to find those specific ideas and give them Kudos.

Agree 1000%. Traditional controls became in many cases more trendy like new one. Like shoes and ties - modern every 7 years... Controls are simply too heavy - in color and all those  borders. With one word 4D. I miss stronger animation tools(picture ring is simply not good enough) , better control editor (especially for compound controls), faster way to move and ROTATE controls around the screen. I often use Measurement Studio and third party controls with all drawbacks doing so. Yes Jack, we all should Kudos-force NI R&D to do something about that.

Sometimes less is more!

Thus I take the opportunity to draw attention to my old flat controls suggestion.

Sometimes all these fancy controls get in the way of usefulness. 😄

I have tried every trick out there to get good UI from labview and feel constrianed almost every time.  If NI doenst want to upgrade the controls the at least allow us to with better decorations to be used in custom controls.  It is very difficult to make interesting controls nativly in labview with a circle, triangle or square.  How about an arbutrary point polygon, semi transparency and shading on decorations.  Maybe a decoration editor to make our own LabView native decorations, then the controls could easily be upgraded to acceptable levels.

Completely agree, I seem to spend mos of my time trying to 'hide' the labVIEW controls when working on a UI!
