Snap Label to Position from Right-Click Menu

Status: New

A shortcut menu like this one would easily move a label by right clicking the label and selecting the snap location.

The move would not change the locked state of the label.

Only the label should change position, the control should remain anchored.

It would especially make the middle right and middle left positions much easier to get to on single-line controls.

The mockup is purposefully large to give visual distinction between locations.  It could instead be more compact, but this worked for an example.

As far as I can tell the label already snaps quite nicely to each of the nine positions you show just by dragging it around the control (I just tested on 2011). Is there anything wrong with that?

@tst:

Yes, it snaps, but with small controls, sometimes it's hard to find the center line (left-center or right-center), because it's a 1- or 2-pixel difference between the centerline and the top or bottom snap points.

This would just remove that small annoyance.

It would also ne useful to "snap" multiple labels at the same time in this way. Gets my kudos!

Definitely more useful for smaller controls.... that's something I've fought with before.  "Is it centered?"

And a huge +1 for snapping multiple labels at once.

If only we could edit ideas ourselves I'd list multiple controls at once as a feature. My own fault for thinking NI would see such an obvious point as implied.

@tst

Centering to small controls without pixel targeting is the main feature, but if one position gets a shortcut then they all should for clarity.

And I hate unlocking and re-locking all the time. I virtually never put a label anywhere but these positions, and never leave them unlocked while I'm not actively placing them. My clicks are precious to me; cutting the number of clicks by 2/3 and eliminating a drag is worthwhile for the tiny effort NI will need to implement this. They can steal my icons if that helps speed things up! Smiley Very Happy

Plus graphic representation adds clarity with a foolproof guarantee they land where intended. Bonus that icons are big click targets and the further from 1 pixel targeting the better! Smiley LOL

Honestly, pixel targeting with modern displays ppi counts is a huge pet-peeve of mine but I have no elegant solution to post as an idea... yet. And I'm not holding my breath for the front panel to become properly vector scalable and fully anti-aliased.

In this context I like to reemphasize my comment on this idea.

I think its worth mentioning this, because the pure adjustment of the position is still only half the truth, when it comes to editing the label afterwards.
