VI Hierarchy - alternative View

Status: Duplicate

Hi

Every now and then, it would be nice to be able to toggle the Hierarchy view into a simple file & folder list; the same vi.lib, ctl, and global filters would be available, but the file list would be textual and sortable by folder, filename, type, etc.  Of course, the next step might be to be able to do a "replace" by clicking on one of the items in the list, for example when relinking files crosslinked by a new user.

This already exists in the project window - the main tab shows a virtual hierarchy and a list (under the dependencies section) and the files tab shows the same info as it is on disk.

It doesn't have the controls and globals filters, but it does show vi.lib, user.lib and instr.lib separately.

But

A) Not everyone uses projects (though I think they should!)

B) I see no way to see file dates, times, etc.

C) Unless I misunderstand Projects, it is possible to either have a file within your hierarchy that is not in the project, as well as having files in your project that are not explicitly in the hierarchy.  So the correlation between Hierarchy and Project is not 1:1.

Besides, saying it's already there, just somewhere else, is not what I had in mind; many of the improvements we see every release were already there, just not as accessible.  The Hierarchy window shows me my loaded, in-memory code - I want to see where it resides, and what it's attributes are.  Thats quite different from what is in the Project window.

You mean like this?

(I think your idea is a duplicate)

Yes.  I did a search for file hierarchy, but obviously the search term was inadequate (or misspelled).  It is a duplicate.

Thanks, Christian.
