View Cluster Constant as Icon

Status: Completed
Available in NI LabVIEW 2010

Clusters are powerful and necessary, but they can easily clutter up otherwise immaculate code.  Why not have a "View As Icon" option (a la Express VIs) for cluster constants?

There have been similar suggestions, but I think we need a clean, simple solution.

Here's a comparison: one with the border deleted similar to current LV terminals, and one with the border left in. If you like the border left in that could be another differentiating point, but I probably would need to get some consensus before making such a change since it is inconsistent with the current look of the BD.

Border color: I would like to see whatever is the "standard" as defined by you guys. If you wax my border color for your standard, that's perfectly fine. Zooming in on the icon, however, it doesn't look like you need to change the user-defined border, since there's space for the cluster frame:

It looks like the Typedef Indicator has two whitespace px between the two pink frames, which would mean it would replace the user-defined border with the inner pink frame. But the typedef'd constant has only one px whitespace between the two frames, leaving the full 32px for the user-defined icon border.

But like I said, either way, as long as a standard is adhered to.

Yes you are right, technically it does not have to overwrite the border, it is done intentionally as a stylistic choice. I agree that we should stick to this style since it is the standard so I will go with option 1.

Jack grt ones but i personally feel the "Non-typedef" gives lesser confusion.

It's amazing what you can find scrounging through old posts, and a hearty retro-Kudos to the original poster Yair. It has been pointed out to me a few Ideas I have posted have actually been floating around for years also. Initially, unknowingly, "standing on the shoulders of giants", but coming to that realization more and more.
