right click speed

Status: New

Dear NI,

Please fix LabVIEW so that when you right-click on a wire on the block diagram the menu pops up immediately, not after 1 second. Also, while you are fixing that, it would be great if you could fix the speed it takes to open a control/indicator properties configuration dialogue.

As far as I can recall these were fine in LV 7, but sometime after that itall started to get a bit sluggish.

Thanks!

Kudos!  My anxiety goes up a notch everytime that right click takes so long.  Has LabVIEW crashed?  Did I just loose all my work?  Oh, no, it's okay, it's just the right click taking so long.  Sometimes I think I can manually cleanup a wire more quickly than the right-click menu can.

I would kudo this 1000 times if I could.  I would add to this the delay for opening VI Properties as well.  This seems to be linked to the default printer being remote to your machine (say, over a VPN).  I just want to turn this off since I never print anything!

Everyone needs to kudo this idea so it gets attention.   Thanks again!

Well, this is not really an idea, but a natural performance enhancement. Chances are it's aready as fast as it can be.

Unless they are all running THz computers from Area 51, I am sure NI is aware of the bottlenecks and already does everything possible to speed things up. 😄

Yes, I sometimes get these moments where LabVIEW suddenly seems to take a Sunday hike in the woods and becomes unresponsive for a while. Usually things normalize if you give it some time. Scary? Agreed!

This has actually been brought up before. The culprint is typically that you may have custom probes. One user had a corrupt custom probe that was cauing the right-click to operate a whole lot slower than 1 second.

altenbach, my concern is that there is "some funny business" going on somewhere.

Modern processors are so fast that there is really, really no good reason for there to be delays when popping up menus or dialogues. My point was that previously it was fast, and now its getting slower!

We all know NI does not always eat its own dogfood *cough* LV 8.2 classes implementation, new report generation toolkit *cough*. I just want to let NI know that we are not perfectly happy with things in their current form.

On the whole, I am very satisfied with LV though 🙂
