cRIO NI 9401 Clarification

Hey guys,

I have a quick question. I am a bit confused between the initial line direction setting in the properties for the NI 9401 and the FPGA I/O Node. Do we need to set the digital I/Os to be inputs in the initial line direction if we want to use the FPGA I/O in? I have a difficult time understanding the difference between the two.

Thank you and let me know if you need any more clarifications from my end.

Hi Peguin,

Yes - there is no auto-direction detection (this has caught me out before!). You need to specify the direction in the property dialog in order for them to function as expected on the diagram. You can still place the nodes in the wrong way but they wont do what you expect.

Cheers,

James

Hi James,

Thank you for the quick reply. I just want to check with you one more time that I understand the point you made. If I want to write into an FPGA I/O node, then they need to be set as inputs in the line direction? Furthermore, if I want to read from an FPGA I/O node, then they need to be set as outputs?
