How to make USB 6501 work with Ubuntu 9.10?

Hello everybody, I was directed by Kyle from NI to this forum here to ask about my perdicament regarding Ubuntu.

Below is the copy of my post on NI forums, and I'd like to thank you in advanced for any offered help.

Sorry for digging this old subject up again.

The thing is as follows :

I got a NI USB 6501 DI/O a couple of weeks ago, and I tried using it with Windows 7, it worked like a charm, no issues whatsoever (at least, none in my field of interest). However, I tried to make it work on Ubuntu 9.10 (kernel version 2.6.31-16-generic), and I haven't been successful. I searched the forums, found a couple of good topics that got me going (in a manner of speaking), but, where others have suceeded, I failed.

I managed to install old NIDAQmxBase 3.1 drivers following the last post in http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=250&thread.id=36713&view=by_date_ascending&page=2.

However, after the installation, upon the invocation of "lsdaq", it found nothing. To cut the story short, I got the exact same thing as  http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=250&message.id=47466&query.id=3382069#M47466    (except the kernel version and dmesg).

I followed the link that was given to him (   http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=250&message.id=34124&requireLogin=False  ) and the link he gave (  http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=250&view=by_date_ascending&message.id=46206#M46206 ) and then i did this :

first I switched the driver version (downdated the firmware) to NIDAQmxBase 3.1 from Windows. I tried plugging it in on Ubuntu again, and still no success. Then I tried to reconfigure the kernel and follow Johannes's instructions, but nikal and nipalk  wouldn't install, something about nipalk not being made for this kernel version (2.6.31-16-generic).

And now, I don't know what to do next :smileyvery-happy:

Funny thing is that when I try to run the given DI/O examples, there are no errors, even though "Dev1/port:0" doesn't exist since my device doesn't enumerate at all. But no, it doesn't work (checked the outputs with a multimeter, they're all on default values ( +4.86V).

So, thank you in advanced, and I hope there is a solution to this problem.

Cheers,

Robert
