Thanks for your replies. My issues are now (automagically) resolved, and both PCI cards are recognized by Windows and the NI software (I can use the latter to successfully perform self-tests and/or firmware updates). After I rebooted a few times (!), Windows XP all of a sudden recognized the PCI 7342.
