NI 9178 is not detected by computer, any idea?

Solved!
Go to solution

I connected the power cable to the NI 9178.

I connected the USB cable to the PC.

When I go to MAX (Measurement & Automation Explorer) and go to the "Devices and Interfaces", and I press F5 (Refresh), it can not detect NI 9178.

By the way, I have two modules on the device, NI 9215 and NI 2963.

I was wondering how I can fix this problem.

Hi Cashany,

What version of the DAQmx drivers do you have installed on your computer?

Can you see the device in Windows Device Manager from Control Panel?

Thanks!

Hi Emily, I downloaded the lastest version of DAQmx, i.e. 9.7, yesterday, but it didn't work.

In device manager, I don't know in which section I should look for the NI9178.

I mean under "USB controllers" or ...?

By the way, on my NI 9178 :

the power light is green,

the ready light is off,

the active light is orange.

Another thing; I can not see my cDAQ NI 9178 in Windows Device Manager.

Windows doesn't recognize it at all.

It should be a driver problem, but I have already installed the latest version of driver i.e. 9.7.

In Measurment & Automation Explorer (MAX), I checked the version of dirver, it is "NI-DAQmx Device Driver 9.7.0f0".

As I mentioned in the last post, on my NI 9178 :

the power light is green

the ready light is off,

the active light is orange

Hi Cashany-

As a last sanity check, are you able to use this chassis on a second computer without trouble?

Regardless, based on the LED behavior you described, I suspect that there may be a hardware problem with your cDAQ-9178.  If you are unsuccessful in testing on another PC or unable to do so, please contact NI support to arrange for a repair/replacement.

I checked my cDAQ NI 9178 on three computers, on some of them, they are recognized and on some thery are not recognized.

I was wondering if there is a solution for this problem, as I need to work with my own computer.

By the way, I have inserted the picutres of condistion of the cDAQ with different PCs.

Hi Cashany,

Page 13 of the user manual explains the status LEDs: http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/372838c.pdf

the power light is green = power supplied

the ready light is off = USB connection is not established/suspend

the active light is orange = unconfigured

Because your 9178 is working when connecting to other computers, I think that the issue is related to your computer. Of the three computers you tried, is this the only computer where it is not recognized?

Can you find the device in Device Manager on the computer where it works? Can you compare this with your other computer to verify that the device is not being recognized by Windows?

Please try restarting your computer, and connecting to a different USB port if possible.

Thank you,
